Frequently asked questions

What will LurkerBot backup?

By default, LurkerBot thoroughly preserves your server's structure, roles, emotes, stickers, and every message.
Customization options are available, allowing you to tailor the backups according to your preferences. For instance, you can exclude specific channels from backup by applying a custom state to them.
While images and videos are included in the backups to some extent, it's important to note that they may become inaccessible if the server is deleted.
For those seeking continuous access to all media content, especially after server deletion, exploring the premium options is recommended.

What can LurkerBot restore?

LurkerBot is dedicated to restoring all possible messages, replicating the content from the backup.
To enhance customization, specific channels can be exempted from restoration.

Things that LurkerBot won't or can't restore properly:
- Emotes and stickers (accessible via the /dump command)
- Message replies, as they are currently not supported with webhooks

Why does a restore take so long?

LurkerBot utilizes webhooks for the restoration process, although it's important to note that Discord imposes certain limitations on webhooks. Specifically:
- A webhook can send a maximum of 30 messages per minute into a channel (approximately 43,000 messages daily).
- LurkerBot is restricted to creating only 40 webhooks per hour.

For users dealing with an extensive volume of messages across multiple channels, considering our premium perks is advisable. This ensures a smoother restoration experience.

What's a chain and how does it work?

At the heart of LurkerBot's capabilities lies its automatic chaining feature. The concept of chaining is best understood through this visual representation:

Upon each restoration, servers become "chained" together, forming a network of interconnected servers. A server can be part of multiple chains (e.g., Server A chained with both Server B and D).
With every restoration, users have the flexibility to decide whether to include the contents of previously restored servers. For instance, when restoring Server B to C, users can choose to incorporate the contents of Server A as well. Alternatively, they may opt for a straightforward restoration of Server B to C without the inclusion of Server A's contents.

Can LurkerBot backup DMs?

The DM backup feature is available through LurkerBot's client feature. However, it's important to note that access to this feature requires a premium subscription.

How do I login with a client?

To login with a client, follow these steps:
1. Provide the access-token of the bot or user.
2. Choose a password, which will be used to encrypt your token for added security.
3. Login with you client

For maximum security, consider changing your Discord password before signing up with the client. After the backup is complete, change your password again to invalidate the old token.

For a bot, please refer to this tutorial
For a user, please refer to this tutorial

I can't login with my client, why?

- Ensure that you copied the token correctly.
